This past year has been thrilling for Ethereum and ethereum.org, marked by the rise of scaling and layer 2 ecosystems, the long-awaited first Devcon in three years, and The Merge. Thanks to the efforts of countless contributors, we’ve launched numerous impactful features and content.
Let’s explore the key moments from 2022:
Translation program 🌎
Expanding educational Ethereum content across multiple languages is vital to our team’s vision for ethereum.org. Our amazing community has made significant progress since we transitioned to a multilingual website in 2019, and in 2022, we were delighted to witness a continued increase in both the number of contributors to our translation program and the readership in non-English languages.
2022 in numbers
- 3k new translators joined
- 4.6 million words translated
- 28% of visits are in languages other than English (double the high from 2021)
Help us translate ethereum.org
While 2022 brought much to celebrate, we still have a long journey ahead to make Ethereum education accessible to non-English speakers. If you speak a language other than English, we invite you to join our translation program and help enhance the accessibility of ethereum.org for all!
Ethereum.org thrives on the incredible contributions of thousands of individuals, and every effort enriches our resource for the community. Similar to the translation program, we saw outstanding engagement in various other community-driven initiatives in 2022, culminating in 37,000 Discord members, an impressive 7,000 Crowdin members, and the remarkable achievement of 1,000 total contributors on GitHub!
In particular, during our typescript rollout and UI library migration, we gained over 50 code contributors 🤯!
Moreover, we had numerous contributors assist in authoring new pages for ethereum.org, covering topics such as blockchain bridges, DeSci, decentralized identity, and much more!
We cannot overstate our gratitude for each and every contributor ❤️. If you wish to contribute and help us further develop ethereum.org in 2023, explore our Q1 roadmap.
Open design system 📐
Since May 2022, we have dedicated our efforts toward building the ethereum.org design system. It required substantial effort to shape the design to its current form, and we are excited to share it. In Q1 2023, we will initiate the implementation of the code required for this new design system.
A primary objective of creating a design system is to empower designers to contribute to the open-source Ethereum community. In 2023, we plan to continue engaging with the community to make our design processes more transparent and collaborative.

Lots of new pages 🥳
In 2022, we created more new content on ethereum.org than ever before. We filled numerous gaps in our content offerings and introduced well-received pages that reached over a million readers.
Although there are too many new pages to enumerate here (our website now boasts more than 300 pages!), some notable additions include:
- Layer 2: explains to users how Ethereum is scaling through rollups and how to get started with layer 2.
- Run a node: emphasizes the benefits of running a node (for both node operators and Ethereum as a whole) and provides a step-by-step guide to begin running their own nodes.
- Staking hub: clarifies the staking process and highlights the advantages of various staking methods.
- Introduction to Web3: covers Web3 principles, its philosophy, and its current limitations.
- Energy consumption: details Ethereum’s current and historical energy consumption and the implications of The Merge.
In 2023, we will keep collaborating with our community and subject-matter experts within the Ethereum ecosystem to identify gaps and deliver high-quality content to our audience. If you’d like to contribute, connect with us on Discord.
Stay updated on our upcoming projects by checking out our quarterly roadmap, or you can suggest an issue if there’s content you’d like added to ethereum.org.
Find wallet revamp 👛
Another significant achievement in 2022 was the overhaul of our wallets content. A substantial portion of traffic to ethereum.org comes from users seeking their first wallet. The previous find a wallet page required considerable effort to compare the various features offered by wallets, creating confusion for users in selecting the most suitable option.
Following multiple design iterations, we developed an e-commerce-style experience—enabling users to filter wallets by specific features, compare options between wallets, and select user personas with recommended features.

Learn hub and learn quizzes 🧠
With many new users eager to learn about Ethereum, we focused extensively in 2022 on enhancing the experience for these individuals. While creating straightforward content is a guiding principle for all our endeavors, these two initiatives specifically targeted this demographic.
Learn hub
We developed the Learn Hub to assist users in finding a starting point for learning about Ethereum without being daunted by the sheer volume of information available and the disconnection of various pages on our site. The Learn Hub provides a guided path, beginning with the fundamentals of cryptocurrencies, progressing to how to get started with Ethereum through acquiring a wallet, and explaining how the Ethereum protocol operates, along with ways to get involved in the ecosystem.
Learning quizzes
Alongside offering a structured learning path through the Learn Hub, we aimed to make learning about Ethereum more engaging, boost retention, and gamify the experience. To achieve this, we developed learning quizzes. Each quiz consists of several questions with multiple-choice answers, followed by explanations for incorrect answers to aid user understanding.
Currently, we host learning quizzes on eight pages and intend to expand their functionality and number in 2023. They are incredibly enjoyable! Give them a try:
The Merge 🌳
Without a doubt, the most significant Ethereum event of 2022 was The Merge. As we prepared for The Merge, we conducted a comprehensive audit of the website for any content that would need updating following Ethereum’s transition to proof-of-stake.
Alongside auditing and revising hundreds of existing pages, we also introduced several new pages encompassing changes following the transition, such as: frequently asked questions on proof-of-stake, proof-of-stake vs proof-of-work, how blocks are produced on proof-of-stake, and many others.
For more comprehensive coverage, refer to the three main initiatives we undertook related to The Merge:
Other projects 🏃♂️
In addition to our core focus on ethereum.org, we invested significant effort supporting other projects crucial to Ethereum’s success. While we won’t spotlight each in detail, we encourage you to explore them!
Looking ahead 👀
With so many accomplishments, the ethereum.org community has plenty to take pride in from 2022. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the thousands of contributors who participated!
Continuing its evolution, like Ethereum itself, we recognize that we still have much work ahead to become the most comprehensive and inclusive resource dedicated to Ethereum on the internet.
To achieve this, we need your support! We have just released our Q1 product roadmap. Take a look, and let us know how you would like to get involved 🙏
