The statue emphasizes Satoshi’s enigma, featuring a design that appears to fade from view depending on the viewer’s perspective. This symbolizes “Satoshi’s retreat from the public spotlight.”
“The statue of Satoshi Nakamoto serves as a tribute to the transformative influence of Bitcoin and the concept of decentralization. Satoshi’s choice to step back and allow the community to lead exemplifies the true spirit of decentralization,” remarked Paolo Ardoino, Tether’s CEO.
Michele Foletti, the Mayor of Lugano, commented that the statue represents more than just Satoshi’s legacy.
“Lugano is swiftly emerging as a key center for digital innovation, and this statue not only honors Satoshi Nakamoto but also captures the progressive spirit that propels our city forward,” Foletti stated.
The unveiling of the disappearing statue follows closely on the heels of an HBO documentary that claimed to have identified the elusive creator of Bitcoin. However, the individual speculated to be Satoshi has publicly denied any such connection.
Peter Todd, a pioneering cryptographer and an early Bitcoin developer, has expressed that the claims made in the documentary have compelled him to limit his public presence due to safety concerns.
