BeInCrypto’s extensive Europe Crypto Roundup highlights the latest developments and trends that are influencing the continent’s cryptocurrency landscape. Our reporters, stationed in crucial markets such as Germany, France, and the UK, deliver detailed analysis on the shifting regulatory framework, adoption statistics, significant industry events, and market fluctuations.

This week’s update includes the inauguration of Zondacrypto’s education center in Poland, Telefónica’s partnership with Polygon’s identity solution, Privado ID, among other noteworthy stories.

Zondacrypto Unveils Poland’s First Cryptocurrency Education Center

Zondacrypto, a cryptocurrency exchange, is opening Poland’s inaugural physical Education Center in Katowice at 21 Staromiejska Street. This center will provide free education on cryptocurrencies and secure investment practices for the general public, aiming to make crypto and investment concepts more approachable, particularly for those with limited knowledge in the area.

This effort signifies a major advancement for the Katowice-based company, which seeks to enhance cryptocurrency education throughout Europe. Operating from Monday to Friday, the center will offer expert insights for both novices and seasoned investors. Posts from the firm’s X account teased the announcement, revealing specifics only recently.

Agata Fit, Head of Community Relations & Skills, shared that the center was established in response to the rising demand for cryptocurrency education.

“Our objective is to embody our mission and brand vision by making cryptocurrencies accessible to everyone, especially to those who have had no previous exposure or limited understanding of digital currencies, and wish to learn more,” she remarked.

Fit further emphasized the center’s aim to strengthen relationships with Zondacrypto users and individuals interested in secure investments. This initiative in Katowice is just the beginning, with plans for additional locations to follow.

Greece Announces New $330 Million Data Center to Enhance AI Development

Data4, based in Paris, is planning an investment of approximately $330 million to establish a significant AI data center hub in Greece. This initiative is aimed at bolstering the nation’s digital infrastructure and economic growth.

On September 12, Data4 disclosed that the new facility will be situated in Paiania, near Athens. As per Bloomberg, CEO Olivier Micheli noted that the company is currently in talks with existing lenders and local Greek banks. He further stated that the project will significantly enrich the local economy and digital ecosystem.

Data4 has numerous data centers across six European nations and aims to invest €7 billion to expand its operations. Additionally, the company intends to construct two more data centers at the Greece site, amounting to an additional investment of €200 million.

Telefónica Tech Collaborates with Polygon’s Privado ID as System Integrator

Telefónica, the Spanish telecommunications powerhouse, has stepped into the role of system integrator for Polygon’s identity solution, Privado ID. On September 10, Telefónica Tech announced plans to incorporate Privado ID’s functionalities into its managed blockchain service, TrustOS. The collaboration seeks to innovate proof-of-concept projects for various digital identity applications, such as age verification and electronic signature solutions.

“This will empower users to automatically generate credentials — including training diplomas, academic degrees, or seminar attendance — as verifiable credentials that can be stored in digital wallets,” the companies explained.

This partnership coincides with the EU’s plans to implement the European Digital Identity Regulation, a framework designed to provide citizens, residents, and businesses with a widely recognized digital identity for accessing public services and conducting transactions.

Privado ID operates on zero-knowledge (ZK) cryptography, a technology enabling users to confirm information without revealing extra personal data. This method will enhance privacy within the European digital ID wallet system.

“The regulation aims to establish a more secure and standardized framework for electronic identification and trust services across Europe, making it essential for businesses and individuals to adopt compliant and innovative identity solutions,” the companies mentioned.

Recently, Polygon separated its digital ID service and conducted tests through proofs-of-concept with multiple financial institutions, including Deutsche Bank.

Ireland Probes Google’s AI Model for Compliance with Data Protection Regulations

The Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) has initiated a cross-border investigation into Google Ireland Limited to determine if the company adhered to EU data protection regulations while developing its AI model, Pathways Language Model 2 (PaLM2).

On September 12, the DPC announced it would investigate whether Google utilized EU citizens’ personal information when training PaLM2, which was released on May 10, 2023. PaLM2 is a sophisticated language model recognized for its multilingual, reasoning, and coding abilities.

The DPC stressed the significance of conducting a Data Protection Impact Assessment to ensure that individuals’ rights are safeguarded, particularly concerning the processing of personal data that presents a high risk. This investigation is part of a larger effort by the DPC and other EU/EEA regulators to monitor AI developments and data usage.

“This statutory inquiry is part of broader efforts by the DPC to collaborate with its peers in the EU/EEA to regulate the processing of personal data from EU/EEA data subjects in the context of AI model and system development,” the DPC stated.

Google’s PaLM2 is available in four variants — Gecko, Otter, Bison, and Unicorn — tailored for diverse use cases, with Gecko optimized for mobile applications, including offline use. Google intends to introduce updated versions as the model is integrated into additional products.

This investigation follows the DPC’s recent conclusion of a probe into the platform X, which complied with EU data protection norms.
