Shibarium, the Layer-2 scaling solution for the Shiba Inu ecosystem, is poised for a significant upgrade aimed at enhancing its security and scalability.
Lucie, the marketing executive for Shiba Inu, revealed that this upgrade will focus on Puppynet, Shibarium’s testnet.
Puppynet Set for Update to Implement Ethereum’s ‘Best Practices’
The upgrade for Puppynet is scheduled for Friday at 2:30 a.m. ET at block 4,697,000. Notable changes include the Bor upgrade to version 1.3.7-bone-beta along with the Cancun hard fork. These improvements are designed to enhance network performance, security, and overall efficiency, providing users with a more seamless experience.
“This upgrade is specifically for Puppynet and it’s crucial for developers! We are introducing several exciting changes that will lead to smoother, faster, and safer operation,” Lucie noted.
The upgrade will incorporate Geth, Ethereum’s core software, into Shibarium’s testnet, facilitating advanced features such as quicker smart contract execution, enhanced peer-to-peer networking, and improved block propagation. It will also fortify the network’s proof-of-stake (PoS) bridge, allowing seamless asset transfers between Shibarium and other blockchains.

Moreover, the update will optimize gas fees, making transactions more economical, and will prune historical block data to reduce disk space usage, ensuring Shibarium remains efficient as it expands. Security improvements will include enhanced error handling, vulnerability fixes, and bug updates for a more secure network.
Following the upgrade, users can anticipate faster transactions, better security, stable cross-chain operations, and enhanced disk management. Lucie emphasized that these updates could drive Shibarium’s adoption, potentially raising SHIB token burn rates.
“To significantly reduce supply, we need millions (even billions) of users! Our goal is to develop a robust system that attracts a vast user base, engaging with SHIBARIUM daily. The more users we have, the more SHIB can be burned, thus increasing its value over time,” Lucie explained.
The Shiba Inu ecosystem team has urged node operators to upgrade their software to version 1.3.7-bone-beta prior to the Cancun hard fork.

This upgrade is a testament to the meme coin’s commitment to progressing the SHIB ecosystem. Last month, Lucie announced plans for Shiba Inu to introduce decentralized governance as part of its development strategy.
