Hello Ethereum community, builders, and researchers,
At the inaugural Devconnect held in Amsterdam in 2022, we gathered for a week filled with comprehensive workshops and discussions. Many participants shared that the sessions and dialogues significantly impacted the ecosystem by fostering tangible progress.
Numerous individuals expressed their desire for Devconnect to return, and after witnessing its impact, we wholeheartedly agreed. Today, we are thrilled to announce that Devconnect is returning, scheduled for November 13-19 this year in Istanbul! 
What is Devconnect?
Devconnect is a week-long event that features a variety of independent Ethereum gatherings, each with a distinct focus. Our aim is to host in-depth sessions on specific topics and foster small group discussions within the Ethereum community to facilitate learning and meaningful progress. Each event during Devconnect will be independently hosted by subject matter experts — perhaps including you! Our team will assist with coordination, providing logistical support, and ensuring minimal overlap among similar events to help keep participants engaged and focused. Throughout the week, we will also offer a coworking space for collaboration for those interested.
Most events will target experts or enthusiasts within each specific domain to promote deeper understanding and fruitful discussions. Unlike a typical conference, our intention for this week-long gathering is to enable the in-depth dialogues necessary for advancing Ethereum further.
Devconnect provides a perfect opportunity to implement subtraction, and we eagerly anticipate the events and advancements the community can achieve during this week. If you’re interested in hosting an event, please stay tuned for more information and resources.
Furthermore, we want to clarify that Devconnect is distinct from Devcon, which will remain our flagship event, and we are excited to bring Devcon 7 to Southeast Asia in 2024.
Why Istanbul
In recent months, we have observed the incredible efforts of the Turkish Ethereum community in promoting Istanbul. We have meticulously evaluated various potential locations for Devconnect 2023, visiting multiple sites, assessing venues, and checking availability. Each location was thoroughly considered before reaching our final decision.
We are thrilled to host Devconnect in Istanbul, a dynamic city in Türkiye where two continents converge, and we look forward to creating an extraordinary experience for the global Ethereum developer community.
While we want this announcement to be uplifting, we are also deeply aware of the devastating earthquakes that have heavily affected southeastern Turkey and northwestern Syria, impacting millions. Our thoughts are with all who have lost loved ones or their homes.
This region will require long-term support, and if you wish to contribute, here is a list compiled by some community members. We hope that hosting Devconnect in Istanbul demonstrates our support and inspires others to contribute to the region in various ways.
We recognize that concerns regarding earthquake safety may arise. While Istanbul was not physically affected by the recent earthquake, we will continue to monitor the situation closely. We look forward to meeting you soon and creating something meaningful and special together in Istanbul during Devconnect this November.
By selecting Istanbul as the host city for Devconnect 2023, we aim to leverage its unique role as a link between East and West. Accessibility is a key focus, and it should be relatively straightforward for attendees from most countries to obtain visas. As one of the world’s top tourist destinations, Istanbul is equipped with a major international airport that welcomes visitors globally. With an efficient local metro system and a wealth of suitable venues for community gatherings, Istanbul is an ideal location for Devconnect 2023.
The enthusiastic local community and numerous blockchain clubs in the area reinforce our confidence in the potential of this vibrant city. We believe that Istanbul’s unique combination of history, culture, and modernity will provide an inspiring setting for the global Ethereum developer community to gather, collaborate with these dedicated groups, and propel Ethereum innovation forward.
