Reasons for Our Gathering
Every two years, the Ethereum community unites at Devcon to collaborate and work towards a future that is more holistic, trustworthy, democratic, and decentralized. Devcon isn’t centered around hype or speculation; it focuses on fostering a more free and open society in which technology amplifies human potential and adheres to our core principles.
For four days, developers, community leaders, and innovators leave their individual spaces to converge in one location, exchanging knowledge, agreeing on the future path of Ethereum, and learning from one another. Post-Devcon, we return to our decentralized lives, but the energy we generate propels us to continue building.
What to anticipate at Devcon
Devcon is a grand event happening over four days in one venue in Bangkok, Thailand from November 12-15, 2024. Devcon differs from Devconnect, the other event we are coordinating.
The Devcon Week calendar includes educational events before and after the main Devcon. We encourage organizers to align their events with the main Devcon schedule, as we will not be listing events occurring during Devcon days to keep it the primary focal point.
Featured Speakers
This year, Devcon welcomed nearly 3,000 speaker applications, doubling the submissions from Devcon VI.
Highlighted speakers include:
- Vitalik Buterin (Co-founder of Ethereum): Discussing significant issues at the convergence of technology and society.
- Aya Miyaguchi (Executive Director of the Ethereum Foundation): Presenting her vision for the growth of Ethereum’s ecosystem and the Infinite Garden.
- Roger Dingledine (Co-founder of The Tor Project): Sharing insights from the Tor community on privacy-by-design and the cypherpunk mindset.
- Bruno Maçães (philosopher, journalist, politician, and author): Investigating how technology is reshaping geopolitics in which nations and major powers vie to create and manage new global systems.
- Hart Montgomery (CTO of the Linux Foundation): Providing insights into the structures of open-source projects and community engagement.
- Gubsheep (Co-founder of 0xPARC): Investigating programmable cryptography and its implications for dApps and the formation of entirely new digital realms.
These mini-events at Devcon will cultivate interdisciplinary conversations on topics significant to both Ethereum and society, by bringing together experts across various fields. Some key sessions include:
-
d/acc Discovery Day: Led by Vitalik Buterin, Vincent Weisser and others, this session delves into the d/acc (defensive accelerationism) vision and the significance of concentrating on decentralization and defensive technologies to forge a resilient future.
-
MUD: Autonomous Worlds & Onchain Games: Orchestrated by 0xPARC and Lattice, ideal for those intrigued by autonomous worlds, on-chain games, and other complex Ethereum applications.
-
Developing on Ethereum: BuidlGuidl will provide hands-on sessions for both novice and experienced developers to construct decentralized applications and compose smart contracts. You’ll gain practical skills, mentorship, and connect with fellow developers.
-
Programmable Cryptography: 0xPARC and others will demonstrate how second-generation cryptographic primitives like zero-knowledge proofs, multi-party computation, and fully homomorphic encryption serve as a foundation for a more advanced internet.
-
Formal Verification Hangout: Casual discussions on the security and reliability of smart contracts and software systems, fostering connections among researchers and developers.
If you’re keen on leading discussions at Devcon, the Discussion Corners are ideal for engaging with topics surrounding Ethereum. Reservations for these discussion spaces will soon open for everyone before Devcon.
Community Hubs offer areas, coordinated by the community, for thorough discussions on specific Ethereum-related topics and to connect with others in related fields. Here’s a list of featured Community Hubs:
- Account Abstraction Hub: Focused on enhancing user onboarding while remaining true to decentralization, discussing how to develop the Account Abstraction ecosystem—from SDKs and wallets to protocol standards like ERC-4337.
- Adoption Hub: A space for designers, researchers, and marketers to collaborate on strategies for web3 adoption, emphasizing user experience and trust.
- Collective Intelligence Governance Hub: Experts from prominent DAOs discussing challenges and advancements in DAO governance design, delegation, accountability, and funding, striving to enhance DAO governance through collective intelligence.
- Community Gardeners Hub: A meeting point for community builders to connect, share global Ethereum initiatives, and strategize on community growth.
- Onchain Creators Hub: An area dedicated to the exploration of onchain creativity, economic models, and tools to facilitate Ethereum’s mainstream acceptance.

Hacker Cave
In search of a specialized area to explore new technologies and innovate? The Hacker Cave features comfortable seating, vibrant neon lighting, and lush plants, creating the ideal atmosphere for unleashing your ideas.
Music & Art Space
Experience live music, visuals, and workshops in an immersive artistic environment. Participate in jam sessions, sound healing, or simply soak in the ambiance. This Music space is an initiative by the Open-Source Orchestra, which contributed this DIP.
Are you a musician within the Ethereum ecosystem? Join the jam by filling out this open call.
Capture and Escape Games
Engage in a live escape game that integrates cryptography, exploration, and puzzle-solving. Interact with non-playing characters (NPCs) and unveil hidden sections of the venue as you advance through increasingly challenging stages. Presented by Daedalus Industries via this DIP.
Coworking Space, Meeting Rooms & Relaxation Area
For those seeking a quiet area for focused work during Devcon, there will be a designated section with Wi-Fi available for serene coworking.
You can also reserve large or small meeting rooms for in-person meetings with your usually remote team, engage in important one-on-one discussions, or conduct other private conversations.
Devcon will also feature a relaxation room, the perfect venue for relaxing, rejuvenating, and letting your thoughts wander. Equipped with hammocks, beds, and massage therapy, it is designed to help you recharge and stay invigorated throughout the event.
No worries, there will be fewer individuals in suits 😄
Secure Your Devcon Ticket
The next ticket wave is OPEN NOW (Tuesday, October 1st) until they sell out, with discounts available for Ethereum and open-source builders, academics, SEA residents, and young attendees. You can apply for these discounted tickets here.
The complete schedule for programming will be released soon, and we have already sold and distributed close to 8,000 tickets. This is an event you won’t want to miss, and we are eager for you to be a part of it.
We may see some of you even earlier—about a month before Devcon at one of the pop-up cities in Chiang Mai or at other events leading up to Devcon. Then, we’ll all journey together to Bangkok for Devcon, November 12–15, at QSNCC.
Stay inspired and keep building.
