co-founders Sam Altman and Alex Blania shared significant updates regarding the initiative and its ambition to register 1 billion human users. Currently, Worldcoin, now rebranded as World Network, boasts 15 million users, out of which approximately 7 million have been verified.
The network was introduced five years ago, beginning with World ID aimed at proving humanity, followed by the launch of the Worldcoin (WLD) token last year.
Blania, who is also the CEO of Tools for Humanity, highlighted that the project is now concentrating on its third objective – scaling and decentralization – with a goal of reaching 1 billion users.
Significant Updates
OpenAI’s Sam Altman emphasized the project’s critical role as an essential human layer for the internet amid the increasing prevalence of AI and AI agents.
To meet its target of 1 billion users, the World Network team introduced an upgraded version of the Orb, the device designed to scan an individual’s iris for unique human verification. The production of Orbs is reportedly distributed globally to strengthen ‘decentralization.’
Moreover, these devices will be placed in cafés and other public venues, and can even be requested on demand, similar to ordering pizza, as part of their strategy to attract new users. The new Orbs are expected to be available by Spring 2025.
Among the most intriguing updates from the event were the Deep Face and super mini-app. The Deep Face feature will link the World ID with users’ facial recognition to verify identities privately and mitigate the risks related to the increasing presence of deep fakes.
Perhaps the most thrilling development is the introduction of the new World App, which will incorporate a super mini-app that includes a wallet and Vault (for passive yields on savings). Imagine having the ability to shop and transfer money worldwide instantly with minimal or no fees.
The app store will also feature games that are not influenced by bots, providing additional enjoyment and facilitating user integration into the platform.
Lastly, the World Chain’s mainnet has officially gone live, enabling developers to create scalable applications and solutions for humans.

From a price perspective, the event appeared to initiate a ‘sell-the-news’ response, with the WLD price experiencing a decline following the updates. The altcoin fell by 5% on the daily charts, dropping from $2.3 to $2.0. It remains uncertain how these updates will impact WLD’s market sentiment in the near future.
