SuperRare, the digital asset marketplace built on Ethereum, has implemented Chainlink’s cross-chain interoperability protocol (CCIP) to enhance its native token, $RARE, facilitating secure transfers between Ethereum and Base, a layer-two blockchain built on Ethereum. In this article, we will explore what this integration means in detail.
SuperRare Utilizes Chainlink for NFT Transfers
On October 18, SuperRare announced in a blog post that it has integrated the Chainlink network into its non-fungible token coin, $RARE. This integration is expected to enable SuperRare to utilize Chainlink’s features to ensure secure transfers across Ethereum and Base, the layer-two blockchain associated with Ethereum.

SuperRare, which launched in April 2018, serves as a digital marketplace for emerging digital artists and art collectors. It allows users to create, collect, and trade exclusive NFTs on the Ethereum blockchain. On this platform, NFT artworks are minted directly by the artists through unique wallet addresses, ensuring that every previous bid, sale, and collector remains permanently recorded on the blockchain.
The SuperRare marketplace features $RARE, its governance cryptocurrency. This token enables community members to have a say in curation through Space Races as well as in decision-making for the future direction of SuperRare. Holders of $RARE can engage in governance by drafting and/or voting on proposals, solidifying SuperRare’s position as a leading platform in the NFT landscape.
Integration of SuperRare and Chainlink
Chainlink is a decentralized oracle network based on Ethereum, which aims to facilitate the reliable transfer of tamper-proof data from off-chain sources to on-chain smart contracts. By bridging the real world with evolving blockchain technologies, Chainlink enables developers, startups, and enterprises to create practical applications that drive real value in the Web3 space.
With this latest integration, SuperRare intends to utilize Chainlink CCIPs to enable secure transfers of its NFT token, $RARE, across both Ethereum and Base blockchain networks. CCIP allows users to programmatically transfer tokens between blockchains using lock-and-mint or burn-and-mint methods, all while supporting arbitrary data commands.
