Are you passionate about the development of the core protocols that drive the Ethereum blockchain? Do you want to engage at the most foundational and technical levels of the Ethereum protocol?
I am thrilled to share that applications are now open for the second cohort of the Core Developer Apprenticeship Program (CDAP)!
What is CDAP
I’m Piper Merriam, a core developer, and my role encompasses the development and maintenance of the Ethereum protocol. The pace of protocol development has been surging. The “merge” is approaching rapidly, the journey toward “Stateless Ethereum” is progressing, and we have initiatives aimed at addressing long-standing issues in the EVM. There’s a plethora of tasks to tackle, but unfortunately, there’s a scarcity of individuals equipped with the necessary knowledge and expertise. That’s where you fit in.
This initiative from the Ethereum Foundation is my way of guiding people into the realm of core protocol development. Here are some particulars:
- Applications are accepted until September 13th
- The program runs from late September 2021 through February 2022
- Participants will gain direct access to the core developer community
- Participants will have the chance to contribute to real projects that significantly impact the Ethereum protocols
The program aims to give you practical experience in core protocol development while providing assistance as you learn about the foundational protocols of Ethereum.
The First Cohort
Two months ago, we launched the first cohort, “cohort zero” of the Core Developer Apprenticeship Program (CDAP). Since then, around 15 developers have been exploring, learning, researching, and contributing. Many of those who joined had minimal prior knowledge about the mechanics of Ethereum. Now, just two months later, they’re doing things like:
- Developing an alternative method for documenting and specifying the Ethereum protocol.
- Investigating how to modify or remove the SELFDESTRUCT opcode
- Assisting in the development of ZKSync
- Building new peer-to-peer networks for the portal network.
- Creating their own version of the EVM
With the validation of this concept, we are now ready to initiate the second cohort.
Doing Something Meaningful
Core protocol development is undoubtedly the most impactful endeavor I have engaged in professionally. I utilize my expertise to nurture and enhance a multi-billion dollar protocol; a protocol I believe will be instrumental in fostering a more just and equitable future for humanity. I cannot express the same for the various “rat-race” jobs I’ve held before. Interested in joining us to create a future that inspires you?
