Proof of Workforce, alongside Santa Monica Vice Mayor Lana Negrete, will be presenting the Santa Monica Bitcoin Office at the upcoming California Municipal Revenue and Tax Association (CMRTA) Annual Conference scheduled for October 9-10. They will discuss a case study on this groundbreaking municipal office, which is the first of its kind in the United States.
Established in July 2024 following a unanimous vote from the city council, the Santa Monica Bitcoin Office is dedicated to informing residents about the possibilities of Bitcoin while forging industry partnerships to drive economic recovery and job creation.
“Proof of Workforce is thrilled to share our experiences and perspectives with fellow municipal leaders at the CMRTA conference,” stated founder Dom Bei. “Through our early initiatives, we have already gleaned numerous invaluable lessons and discovered exciting opportunities.”
Vice Mayor Negrete remarked, “The response has been overwhelmingly positive, and there is significant community engagement as we continue to learn about Bitcoin together.”
The presentation will focus on the challenges and prospects associated with establishing this innovative office. It will provide insights for other municipalities contemplating similar programs. The CMRTA conference will bring together municipal finance professionals from across California, discussing issues such as personal branding, regulatory updates, ballot measures, and current topics, including Bitcoin.
Proof of Workforce manages the Bitcoin Office at no expense to Santa Monica. This non-profit organization offers resources and education on Bitcoin adoption for workers, unions, pension funds, and municipalities.
