RadarFit, a Brazilian wellness application, employs AI and gamification to promote healthy behaviors, leading to a positive influence on employee well-being.
RadarFit, a wellness app led by women, utilizes Microsoft’s Azure AI to tailor physical and mental health experiences. Founded in 2020 by three female entrepreneurs, the app has attracted over one million users thanks to its innovative gamification approach that encourages healthier living, as reported by Source LATAM.
Corporate Wellness Program
While RadarFit caters to individual users, its main objective is delivering extensive health and wellness initiatives to corporate partners. Jade Utsch Filizzola, the Chief Executive Officer, states that the app assists companies in mitigating substantial costs linked to employee health and the associated investment in health benefits.
Brazil, like other rapidly developing nations, confronts elevated incidence rates of heart disease and metabolic disorders such as diabetes and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Estimates suggest that around 35.3% of the Brazilian population suffers from NAFLD, the highest rate in Latin America, compared to a global average of 25%, as per the Global Burden of Disease database. The Journal of Hepatology highlights that many chronic conditions, including NAFLD, can be prevented or reversed through appropriate diet and physical activity.
Benefits for Employee Health
Samuel Lopes Fontes, responsible for finance and HR at Cooabriel, expressed amazement at RadarFit’s influence on employee well-being. Motivated by AI-generated prompts from the app, employees began exercising and adopting healthier habits. Initially, 27 out of 470 employees joined RadarFit; this number has increased to 59, with health issues reported decreasing by 50% in the first six months of this year.
Fontes also experienced personal advantages from the app. After being diagnosed with fatty liver disease, he improved his diet and exercise, resulting in remission of his condition.
Utilizing AI and Gamification
RadarFit takes advantage of Microsoft’s Azure OpenAI Service and Microsoft Copilot Studio for automating marketing processes and evaluating data and user feedback. The app integrates generative AI with a points system to promote healthier decisions. Users receive custom recommendations tailored to their habits, and the points they earn can be donated to various social or environmental causes or exchanged for products such as appliances and electronics.
Tasks are classified by difficulty, each assigned varying point values. For instance, a 15-minute workout nets 3 points, while a 60-minute workout can yield 9 points. Consuming healthy meals provides 31 points, underscoring the significance of nutrition. Even a simple task like drinking a glass of water earns 5 points.
Promoting Healthy Rivalry
The app also features a function that allows users to track their progress against peers, encouraging healthy competition. This aspect, akin to those found in language learning applications, can further inspire users to uphold healthy routines. Users may choose to withdraw from company competitions if they wish.
Tatiany Duarte, the Chief Technology Officer at RadarFit, who created her first video game at the age of 15, believes that merging AI with gamification enhances the process of developing healthier habits, making it more interactive and enjoyable.
