[PRESS RELEASE – Los Angeles, California, October 21st, 2024]
NFL Rivals, the officially endorsed video game of the National Football League and the National Football League Players Association, has introduced its ‘Monster Smash 2’ Halloween event, allowing players to undertake challenges and strive to “rewrite history” alongside its inaugural NFL Legend, former NFL MVP Adrian Peterson, through a series of monstrous performances as the running back.
This program will spotlight current NFL players renowned for their exceptional October performances in history, with Adrian being a notable exception. Players can engage in packs, participate in weekly currency events, join ‘Main Events’ on weekends, utilize a Power Pass, and access the program store filled with legendary, epic, and rare players.
Adrian’s variations will be highlighted throughout the game – available as a ‘free’ reward, part of a Battle Pass, and among the program’s top two rewards in the program store – Legendary and Mythical Player Editions. These top two rewards will be purchasable exclusively using ‘candy’, but players can only acquire one of them, not both.
The Halloween program will run for four weeks, featuring 40 milestones. Rewards along the battle pass will include coins, gems, training resources, player cards, PFPs, and one exclusive Epic reward player at the end of the paid path. That exclusive player for this promotion will be Adrian Peterson.
The program kicked off on Thursday, October 17, at 8 AM PT, and is set to conclude on Thursday, November 14, at 8 AM PT, with players earning exclusive rewards as they complete various challenges.
The Launch of the Monster Smash 2 Program
The Monster Smash 2 event offers players a chance to engage in events and challenges to earn ‘candy’ – the essential currency within the game. Players can utilize ‘candy’ to access special Halloween players (noted for their monstrous October performances) and unique Adrian Peterson cards.
As in prior programs, the NFL players will feature a core selection in packs with ‘chase’ players available through events; however, some distinctions exist this time. Each pack includes 8 Legendary, 8 Epic, as well as up to 10 Rare players, accompanied by seven additional ‘chase’ players who will appear in weekend events and the promo store.
It’s important to note that the seven ‘chase’ players will not be found in packs. Four players will be provided as weekend event rewards, and three will be available in the promo store for users to spend their ‘Candy’ currency on – encompassing rare, epic, and legendary tiers. This gives players access to some of the game’s top players while progressing through their challenge series.
Adrian Peterson will have multiple editions awarded at different stages of the program, allowing players a chance to relive some of Peterson’s iconic moments through themed ‘Challenges.’
First off, any player who logs in can claim a “Base Card” as a complimentary reward on the first node in the ‘Challenges’. Additionally, players can earn the “Rare NAT” edition, a non-tradable rare edition granted at the conclusion of the program’s quick-play ‘Challenges’. Players can also secure the “Epic LE” edition as a reward at the end of the Battle Pass.
Finally, players will have the opportunity to purchase two premium cards (Adrian Peterson editions) – Legendary and Mythical, for candy currency in the promo store.
Tasks and Challenges in Monster Smash 2
As previously noted, players will face 40 milestones to achieve within four weeks, aiding them in earning promo XP that advances their progress in the Rewards battle pass. Some tasks will refresh daily, while others will span a longer duration. Although QB passing is the primary focus of the game, Monster Smash 2 will emphasize running tasks, thus highlighting the importance of having Adrian Peterson editions in the RB position.
Events will primarily center around currency-collecting activities during the weekdays, shifting to player-specific ‘Main Events’ on weekends. Currency-collecting events will occur bi-weekly with varied requirements each time, mostly rewarding diverse amounts of program currency to spend on rewards in the Promo Store. The main events will represent the most competitive aspects of the game, featuring some of the top players in the Halloween program, excluding Adrian Peterson. The final Mythical event will provide bonuses based on the version of Adrian Peterson present in your lineup.
The program will also feature 10 running challenges that replicate some of Adrian Peterson’s greatest career moments or allow players to rewrite history by resolving his near misses. Challenges to include the iconic 2008 Week 10 game-winning TD against the Green Bay Packers, the 2009 NFC Championship clash against the New Orleans Saints, the 2013 Week 13 comeback versus the Chicago Bears, the 2012 NFC Wild Card defeat against the Green Bay Packers, and a final challenge focused on his 2007 single-game rushing record of 296 yards against the LA Chargers.
Upon completing the “Adrian Peterson Challenge”, players will be rewarded with his RARE card, which can assist them in the ‘Beast Events’ aimed at acquiring his higher-powered editions. Additional rewards during the challenges will likely include RB training points to support users in enhancing their new AP editions.
Lastly, the Halloween program will introduce an all-new spooky stadium, with eerie card effects and camera shakes when utilizing any version of Adrian Peterson.
