The Protocol Support team is initiating a grant round aimed at supporting the forthcoming Ethereum KZG Ceremony.
The KZG Ceremony is a synchronized public event designed to establish a cryptographic foundation for Ethereum scaling efforts such as EIP-4844. You can discover more about the Ceremony and engage with the test version at ceremony.ethereum.org. If you’re interested in receiving funding support to deepen your involvement, there are two qualifying options:
- developing your own implementation
- providing entropy generated from unconventional sources or through a distinctive process
→ APPLY BY JAN 31 or find out more details below
Developing your own implementation
Maximizing the number of different implementations is crucial to preventing bugs that could compromise the entire ceremony. This variation helps eliminate single points of failure that could stem from software bugs and mitigates other related risks. In this context, we are particularly interested in funding diverse implementations, especially those that include:
- custom or tailored BLS implementations
- auditable codebases
- user-friendly interfaces
- effective randomness generation
- distinct programming languages and compilers
- implementations ready for utilization early in the contribution phase (commencing early January and continuing for approximately two months)
This Ceremony has been specifically crafted to facilitate contributions easily, and we encourage everyone to review the specifications.
We recommend funding requests for basic to fully featured implementations ranging from 500 to 10,000 USD.
Creative contribution methods
Another approach to ensure that the final output of the Ceremony remains unbiased is by collecting entropy (randomness) and ensuring its creative destruction. We welcome proposals that:
- gather unique forms of entropy
- contribute this entropy to the Ceremony
- destroy the entropy thereafter
- document the above process in a reliable/verifiable manner (e.g. video proof, a blog post with images, thorough written records)
Submit your proposal
Individuals who believe they can meet some of the above objectives are encouraged to apply for this grants round, either as individuals or as part of a team.
Grants will be awarded on a rolling basis, evaluated on a case-by-case basis. You may submit multiple proposals as long as each proposal is unique and adheres to the criteria.
Proposal requirements
- Proposals must be submitted in English
- Works must be open source
- Proposals should aim for completion before the conclusion of the general contribution phase
Selection criteria
Impress us with your creativity! Here are several criteria to consider when crafting your proposal:
- Originality of the proposal
- Quality of work and qualifications of contributors
- Clarity, succinctness, and organization of the proposal
- Contributions that help a lay audience understand the ceremony: its significance and mechanisms
Submission deadline
Please submit by 31 Jan 2023 to be eligible for consideration! We will follow up with your submission via email. The general public contribution phase is expected to commence in early January and last for two months, followed by a special contribution phase specifically for projects funded in this grants round.
