Hut 8, a significant Bitcoin miner and energy infrastructure provider, has announced the launch of its GPU-as-a-service sector.
This GPU cluster, as stated in a Hut 8 press release on September 26, includes multiple HPE supercomputers, all operating with 1,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs. This launch follows a partnership with Hewlett Packard Enterprise and IT solutions provider AdvizeX.
Hut 8’s focus on AI expansion
According to the press release, Hut 8’s subsidiary Highrise AI will manage the GPU-as-a-service venture, which has a 5-year agreement for revenue sharing and infrastructure financing.
This partnership enables Hut 8 to further diversify its operations and now incorporates a computing layer that covers artificial intelligence, Bitcoin mining, and cloud services.
“In line with our dedication to strategic capital allocation, we believe that a well-structured AI computing business will be beneficial both financially and strategically, driving top-line growth, revenue diversification, and long-term value creation,” stated Hut 8’s CEO Asher Genoot.
A cutting-edge mining chip
The launch of this new business vertical occurs just days after Hut 8 announced its new U3S21EXPH ASIC miner featuring direct liquid-to-chip (DLC) cooling technology.
Hut 8 collaborated with renowned crypto mining chip manufacturer BITMAIN to design this innovative ASIC mining chip. The deployment of this model is set for the second quarter of 2025, targeting an estimated 15 exahashes per second in hosting capacity.
The initial rollout of 15 EH/s will enhance Hut 8’s hashrate by approximately 81%, with the miner anticipating potential self-mining capabilities of up to 20 EH/s.
