The EigenLayer Ethereum protocol has been targeted in a hack on X (formerly Twitter), with security analysts estimating that a single victim may have lost $800,000 due to phishing links posted by the attackers.
The initial phishing message, shared at 11:20 am, announced that the “EIGEN stakedrop Phase 2 is now active,” claiming a distribution of a certain amount of EIGEN tokens. This message has now been removed.
Nonetheless, the compromised account has shared various similar posts, including a lengthy thread and a warning that any subsequent messages might be phishing schemes.
The hackers also posted an image of a dog adorned with a floral headpiece to entice users into clicking the harmful links.

Security expert Scam Sniffer reported that “EigenLayer’s account on X was compromised and posted phishing messages,” warning that the links could introduce malware, steal secret recovery phrases, and lead to fake MetaMask sites.
Additionally, Scam Sniffer noted that an individual lost $800,000 in mETH after signing a permit phishing request around the same timeframe. “The victim likely clicked the phishing link shared by EigenLayer,” it was reported.

As of this writing, the account continues to disseminate phishing links.
