Genesis Digital Assets (GDA), one of the largest Bitcoin mining firms worldwide, has revealed its intention to expand its newly established Texas data center to a capacity of 400 megawatts. This ambitious phase two development underscores GDA’s dedication to Texas as a mining center, taking advantage of the state’s renewable energy and innovation-friendly policies.
GDA’s Rowdy Data Center in Vernon is currently operational at 60 MW, with support from the Oklaunion Substation. The facility enjoys significant local wind energy access and is situated near the city of Vernon in Wilbarger County.
The data center operates using grid power supplemented by renewable energy sources. “GDA’s operations align naturally with the Oklaunion Power Station,” remarked Tom Walker, Chairman of the OPS Board. “This initiative vividly illustrates how Bitcoin mining can introduce entirely new dynamics to the energy sector.”
The Rowdy Data Center revitalizes the retired Oklaunion Power Station, restoring numerous jobs that were lost when the facility shutdown in 2020. To date, GDA’s activities have created 12 permanent and 150 construction jobs.
“Texas has become a top location for local support and renewable energy sources, and the Rowdy data center holds particular significance for our operations,” stated GDA CEO Andrey Kim.
The organization seeks to enhance the Bitcoin network’s security and reliability by scaling its mining infrastructure and leveraging renewable energy resources.
