- ethOS has launched the dGEN1, a hardware device designed for on-chain Ethereum dApp interactions.
- This device operates on LineageOS with an integrated Nimbus client, removing the need for third-party RPCs.
- Preorders are available for 0.2 ETH through NFT minting, with shipments scheduled for Q2 2025.
The Ethereum-centric operating system ethOS has introduced the dGEN1, an innovative hardware device aimed at improving user engagement with on-chain decentralized applications (dApps).
Described by ethOS as “the first on-chain everyday carry,” this cutting-edge device is tailored for users involved in Ethereum’s growing ecosystem.
dGEN1 will use a variant of LineageOS
The dGEN1’s launch comes on the heels of other successful blockchain-oriented devices, such as the Solana Mobile Saga and Seeker. However, unlike these Solana devices, the dGEN1 does not include telecommunication features, concentrating strictly on Ethereum interactions.
This device runs on a customized version of LineageOS, a widely-used Android fork, which permits the inclusion of a native Nimbus light client. This capability allows users to authenticate their data during dApp interactions, thereby avoiding dependence on potentially unreliable third-party remote procedure calls (RPCs).
Additionally, the dGEN1 comprises a built-in browser that supports IPFS and .eth domains, enabling uninterrupted accessibility to decentralized content.
A notable aspect of the dGEN1 is its dedicated screen, which delivers real-time notifications of transactions and metadata throughout network interactions. This feature is designed to enhance user experience by helping users stay informed about their activities on the Ethereum network.
dGEN1 preorders are now available
For those looking to purchase the dGEN1, preorders are currently being offered through an NFT minting process on the Base Layer 2 network for 0.2 ETH, roughly $520.
According to the company, device shipping is anticipated in the second quarter of 2025, with around 630 users currently holding the associated NFT.
Moreover, ethOS intends to reward device owners with an airdrop upon the delivery of the dGEN1, allowing each owner to participate in the airdrop pool, thus incentivizing early adopters further.
With its distinctive features and design, the dGEN1 aims to establish itself as a crucial tool for Ethereum enthusiasts seeking efficient engagement with on-chain dApps.
