The global cryptocurrency exchange Bitget has announced a multi-million dollar collaboration with the renowned Spanish football league, La Liga.
This partnership, which designates Bitget as La Liga’s official crypto partner, was revealed at the recently concluded Token 2049 event in Singapore.
A Strategic Alliance with Worldwide Impact
In a statement issued on September 19, Bitget, based in Seychelles, indicated that this collaboration is part of its strategy to enhance its presence in Asia and Latin America, where football has a massive following.
La Liga hosts some of the globe’s most successful football teams, including Real Madrid and Barcelona, each possessing hundreds of millions of fans worldwide. The matches between these teams, famously known as “El Clasico,” are reportedly viewed by over 650 million people across more than 180 countries.
The league also showcases some of football’s top stars, such as Kylian Mbappé, Vinícius Jr., and Robert Lewandowski. With nearly 27 million followers collectively on X, Bitget believes that its association with these prominent players will provide a substantial platform to increase crypto adoption.
A recent report from Chainalysis indicates that out of the top 20 countries for cryptocurrency adoption, 13 belong to the regions Bitget is targeting. Leading the charge are India, Indonesia, and Vietnam from Asia, while Brazil, Venezuela, and Mexico represent the top nations in Latin America.
Notably, these countries also exhibit some of the strongest football fandom, with a 2022 Nielsen survey on the global football landscape indicating that Vietnam, Indonesia, and Thailand have some of the highest rates of football interest in Asia.
Enhancing Crypto Adoption in Emerging Markets
The partnership, reportedly worth several million dollars, is set to continue for three years. It is part of Bitget’s initiative to promote crypto awareness through sports, in line with its “Make It Count” philosophy.
Through this collaboration with La Liga, the company aims to introduce Web3 solutions to millions of football enthusiasts globally, particularly in Asia and Latin America, where both parties see significant growth potential.
Gracy Chen, CEO of Bitget, reinforced this vision, emphasizing the increasing synergy between crypto and sports.
“Our partnership with La Liga transcends mere sponsorship. It’s about fast-tracking crypto adoption in sports and creating engaging opportunities for both fans and athletes. We see sports as a formidable channel for raising awareness about Web3 and blockchain technology,”
Supporting Bitget’s entry into sports, a recent report from Doors3 indicates that 75% of sports fans desire more personalized and exclusive experiences, which technologies like Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) can provide.
These innovations, some of which La Liga has previously embraced, are transforming how fans interact with their favorite teams, offering virtual experiences, voting rights on club decisions, and access to exclusive digital content.
