[PRESS RELEASE – Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, September 19th, 2024]
The Aptos Foundation has successfully organized The Aptos Experience, a multi-day event that took place on September 5 and 6, 2024, in Seoul, South Korea. This gathering celebrated the ecosystem contributions that are shaping the future of Web3 on the Aptos blockchain.
This premier event drew over 700 participants from major Web2 companies such as Universal Pictures, Google Cloud, Franklin Templeton, Visa, and SK Telecom; as well as leaders from Web3-native projects like Aave Labs, Ondo Finance, and Supervillain Labs; and various ecosystem members and aspiring developers from around the world. Participants enjoyed an “un-conference” atmosphere, featuring technical workshops conducted by Move developers, an engaging Web3 exhibition hall, and lively discussions aimed at defining the future of Web3. Builders also engaged in networking opportunities and carefully curated evening events.
More than 60 speakers provided insights that shaped discussions on the growth of the creator economy, digital ownership, and essential measures needed to transition the next billion users to Web3. Esteemed experts such as Arthur Hayes, Meltem Demirors, and Santiago R. Santos offered in-depth analysis of the future of finance, gaming, art, culture, and technology.
Although the specific topics varied, one theme resonated throughout: the future on-chain is promising, and the Aptos ecosystem is making it happen.
NBC Universal presented insights from its ongoing Web3 journey, while representatives from Visa, PayPal, Arculus, and IDA explored the future of on-chain transactions related to mobile, wallets, and stablecoins. SK Telecom, Xangle, and Lotte Group highlighted the use cases and advantages of adopting Web3 within South Korea. Leaders from Deutsche Motors discussed how Web3 is revolutionizing the used car market by enhancing security and transparency.
Aptos Labs announced enhancements to the Petra wallet, which will introduce new features: earn, simplifying access to stablecoin DeFi lending pools for non-US users; options for peer-to-peer payments; access to exclusive content like videos and digital collectibles tailored to users’ interests; groups for creating digital communities around shared interests; and peer-to-peer “nudges” for interacting with friends. The new Aptos Build suite, designed for creators to develop dApps regardless of their blockchain or Move expertise, was also launched. Additionally, Arculus introduced the Aptos Card – a secure and user-friendly hardware wallet that facilitates global value transfers with ease.
During the Experience, cryptographers and engineers discussed several innovative proposals aimed at advancing finance – and Web3 – on Aptos. Among the upcoming governance proposals will be one for Raptr, a robust BFT protocol that could enable high throughput while maintaining optimal latency and performance on Aptos. A revamped Move programming language will allow builders greater control over code, vectors, and storage.
“Having such a diverse group of individuals in one space, united by their passion for Web3, was truly inspiring. It symbolizes the extensive reach of the Aptos Network,” remarked Bashar Lazaar, Head of Grants and Ecosystem at Aptos Foundation. “From DeFi to gaming and the used car industry, every segment illuminated a Web3 use case that’s being validated on Aptos. It highlighted real-world innovations translating to decentralized value for the masses and showcased the limitless possibilities of an on-chain future.”
“The Aptos Experience provided an extensive overview of the enormous opportunities decentralization presents not just for builders, institutions, and household brands, but for communities worldwide,” stated Alix Musset, Ecosystem Manager at Aptos Labs, a key facilitator within the Aptos ecosystem. “The Aptos ecosystem consists of brilliant minds actively propelling Web3 towards a scalable, secure, and accessible new era of the global internet. Collectively, we’re moving closer to mass adoption, thanks to the unique infrastructure, innovations, and features that only Aptos provides.”
“This event elevated the experience to new heights,” remarked Joseph Lee, CEO of Supervillain Labs, a project built on Aptos. “The chance to connect with peers and experts, all working towards creating the best Web3 experiences possible, was unprecedented. It served as a powerful reminder of our collective endeavor towards a greater purpose – aided by the Aptos tech stack, which offers an outstanding foundation for genuine innovation and interoperability.”
Presentations delivered on stage in Seoul emphasized that Aptos serves as the groundwork for high-performance DeFi. In tandem with ecosystem associates and partner organizations, the Aptos Foundation will persist in supporting projects aimed at bridging the Web2-Web3 divide and leading the world toward mass adoption.
