DeFi platform Ambient Finance has successfully regained access to its website after its domain was compromised by hackers.
Ambient Finance has joined the ranks of decentralized finance protocols targeted by a wave of front-end attacks carried out by unidentified cybercriminals. On October 17, Ambient alerted users of its decentralized exchange regarding a Domain Name System complication affecting its website.
DNS exploitations occur when hackers gain unauthorized access to a platform’s domain registrar credentials, typically with the intent to steal assets and funds by inserting malicious links into the site.
Ambient Finance assured its users that the smart contracts and on-chain infrastructure were secure from any intrusions. However, the DEX cautioned users against visiting the site or approving any transactions until further notice to protect their assets.
Just two hours after the initial report, Ambient Finance updated its users on X, confirming that the problem had been rectified and its DNS was undergoing repairs.
We have reclaimed our domain, and the DNS is currently being updated. As DNS propagation can take some time, users are advised to wait for confirmation before engaging with the front-end site. All contracts and funds are secure and unaffected.

The DeFi and crypto industries have experienced a spike in cyberattacks in recent months, highlighting ongoing security challenges despite the growth within the on-chain sector.
In September, Balancer, an Ethereum-based automated market maker, confirmed a front-end incident that stemmed from a social engineering attack. Several DeFi platforms lost control of their domains and websites during a DNS attack in July. Ethena Labs was also forced to temporarily take down its site last month due to these issues.
Despite the threats posed by cybercriminals, on-chain users have continued to engage with blockchain services and cryptocurrency protocols. DeFi remains in high demand as cryptocurrency usage surges in 2024, according to a report from Andreessen Horowitz published on October 16.
