Anichess, an innovative chess-based strategy game, has launched its public alpha in partnership with Yield Guild Games (YGG), as announced by Animoca Brands. This collaboration aims to expand the game’s presence in Southeast Asia, a crucial area for player engagement.
Game Features and Modes
In its alpha release, Anichess showcases a distinctive combination of classic chess and inventive spell mechanics, delivering an immersive gaming experience. The game features four modes: ranked match, quick match, friend match, and bot match. Players can participate in player-versus-player (PvP) contests, practice against AI, and unlock new spells throughout their journey.

The alliance with YGG is set to bolster Anichess’s distribution and onboarding strategies throughout Southeast Asia, focusing on chess lovers, gamers, and students. A tournament featuring the newly implemented PvP functionalities will commence in October, culminating in the final event at the YGG Play Summit in November in Manila, Philippines. This effort is part of a more extensive strategy aimed at enhancing community involvement and establishing a strong gaming ecosystem in the region.
